The world today is made up of many communities. Many communities consider themselves a part of nation-states, those territorial and political entities which exercise a monopoly on force within certain geographic areas. These states possess juridical statehood, but do not necessarily exhibit empirical statehood. They are called First, Second and Third World nations, and are considered part of the Official World.

There are also communities that don't consider themselves part of nation-states, don't consider themselves part of the Official World, and some are territorial, some virtual, and some something of a world in between.

A Fourth World nation is a medium- to large-sized nation without a significantly recognised state. Fourth World nations, whether old or new, with many supporters or few, always have or claim a substantial territory. The term Fourth World nation can be used interchangeably with the term self-determination or secessionist group.

At other end of the non-Official World spectrum, a Sixth World nation is a small nation, usually based on the Internet. The term Sixth World nation can be used interchangeably with the term micronation, although it was recently discovered that most nations that call themselves 'micronations' don't actually fall under that category.

A Fifth World nation, on the other hand, is a small nation with a strong and established national identity. The Fifth World nation can be either territorial or virtual, ethnic or nonethic, so it is actually midway in characteristics between the Fourth and Sixth Worlds. A Fifth World nation is a mature micronation. The term Fifth World nation can be used interchangeably with the term social identity or irredentist group.

The Micronational Professional Registry (MPR) is an alternative national, or non-Official World community resource. The MPR provides Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Worlders with up-to-date information on real professionals operating within the Official World in various capacities, but who also hold authentic Fourth, Fifth, or Sixth World citizenship.

The MPR proposes to be at least the start of a micronational economic structure of some kind, by encouraging Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth World nations to make public the professionals or skilled semiprofessionals in their midst, so these can be sought when specific services or products are needed. This will, in time, provide Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Worlders with meaningful economic support, and also promote community among different nations.

The MPR also represents a real micronational community, run by real and professional people, not average children, teens, or youths who are not serious, and are merely seeking an outlet for their frustrations against their parents, teachers, and/or employers. The MPR exists not to run away from reality, but to foster the development of a real alternative national community.

The MPR recognises Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth World professionals and semiprofessionals, or Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth World companies producing products that are more than nationalistic adverts (companies have to produce more than national souvenirs or memorabilia). The MPR follows Good Community criteria, and the universal Ethic of Reciprocity. Any complaints about a current MPR member, organisation, or nation from another MPR member, organisation, or nation can be grounds for deletion of the professional, and/or organisation, and/or nation from MPR membership. The MPR recognises all real professionals and semiprofessionals 14 and older, and does not otherwise discriminate on the basis of sex, race, age, national origin, micronational allegiance, sexual orientation, family composition or type, religion, disability, or veteran status. Also, the MPR recognises all real professional and semiprofessional companies, institutions, micronations or nations, and does not discriminate on the basis of registered or incorporated status, institutional or national accreditation, territorial status, or UN/UNPO membership.
